Steve and Clyde are back! The Rockethorse Challenge was born when legendary ultra distance trail runner Steve Black asked race director Barry Armitage if he could “race the horses” during Race the Wild Coast 2018. Maverick long distance surf skier Clyde Barendse also joined the challenge, and while Clyde dramatically exited the race after the Wild Coast claimed his boat late on day 2, Steve went on to finish on the morning of the fifth day. His finish line comment was “I could have done it in 4!” With the winning rider typically crossing the line on the afternoon of the 4th day, the race is on between man and beast: choose your weapon!

“I love it because its freekin’ WILD! This is a thrash against the elements along one of the most dramatic coastlines on the planet. It's a real commitment; you're out there alone, man and boat, facing whatever the ocean throws at you and seas are bigger than anywhere on the southern African coastline. It's all consuming.... you can worry about other things later!”

“The SCENERY is worth the trip itself, but the thrill of racing and the self discovery when tackling the challenges in a race environment are totally different and worth it too! Its amazing what you can do when you set your mind to it!”
